Il Gattorpardo was inspired by a tiled floor on the set of the Lampedusa manor house in the movie '
Il Gattorpardo ' (1963). This fantastic cinema remake starring Burt Lancaster still does not even come close to the original manuscript written by Guiseppe Di Tomasi Lampedusa of the same name. Recently, Lampedusa has become a topic of conversation with swarms of North African refugees clambering to it's shores in the wake of uprisings in Northern Africa. See more about Lampedusa here:
