I always believed that after a period has subsided it needs time in the distillery of the public conscience before people decide whether or not to give it a re-birth. The songs that survive.... like, when thinking of the eighties, you conjure up Spandau Ballet 'True', Joy Division, The Smiths, Talking Heads 'Once In A Lifetime', Bob Seger and Tears For Fears and you can see the scenes unfold in your favourite movies or hear the voice of Emilio Estevez or else you may think of yo-yo's or a Steve Caballero Powell Peralta skateboard. The mere mention of the word can flood your mind. Certain things just stick out.
And for me, the Cranberries 'Linger' is quintessentially 1993 along with that other great Sheryl Crowe song 'All I Want To Do'. I feel now that it is ready to slowly come out of the distillery.
