“Every creation is always a unique « rendez-vous ». A volume, a movement, the
surprise of a material, the brightness of a diamond against a raw mineral, the effect of
a stone voluntarily broken among others that are intact… I like the idea of a piece
which challenges the space and conventions. For me, beauty is always obvious and
amazing.” - Taher Chemirik
Born in 1955 in Algeria, Taher Chemirik is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale
Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. He began his career designing costumes and
accessories for the Opera de Paris and the Comédie Française. He then became a
decorator for Ralph Lauren Stores. In 1990 he decided to dedicate all his time to his
passion for jewels.
His striking artistic talent immediately captivated his audience. This was the beginning
of a twenty year collaboration with the most prestigious fashion labels: Chloé;
Hermès; Balenciaga; Chanel; Yves Saint Laurent; Roger Vivier; Loewe; etc. In
parallel, Taher Chemirik develops his own line of entirely hand-made jewelry in his
Parisian workshop. His immediately recognizable signature designs won him The Time
title in 2007 as one of the top most influential current designers. His pieces are part of
the permanent collection at the Musée National des Arts Décoratifs de Paris.
A new phase was undertaken in 2012 with the creation of fashion show jewelry for
Paco Rabanne and the customization of the iconic ‘69’ brass bag.
At Design Miami in December 2012, Galerie BSL will unveil the first pieces of
furniture created by Taher Chemirik. These ‘InteriorTreasures’, unique brass, copper,
wood, glass and hard stone beautifully sculpted pieces are compact and sensual, as
well as refined and dramatic. Their strong presence vouches for the wealth of Taher
Chemirik’s talent, an artist who expresses himself through volume and whose
architectural poetry works on the scale of jewelry as well as with Design Art pieces of
huge dimensions. A solo show will be devoted to him at Galerie BSL in Paris from March to May 2013.
Thanks Nick ! A unique piece, at the crossroad of sculpture and decorative arts, that will be shown at Design Miami/ on December 5-9.
