Keep Them Coming - New Submissions For The Le Noeud Papillon Self Portrait Competition

Alexis Zambrano Submission For Le Noeud Papillon Self Portrait Competition

Today on our Instagram I took a small excerpt from a film I love, directed by Martin Scorsese, as the character Lionel Dobie, played by Nicholas Nolte, turns his art manager away saying he has nothing to show him.

Alexis Zambrano submitted today which gave me a high sigh of relief, a wonderful submission, coloured pencil on paper with silver foil. What a piece of art!

I love it.

It really isn't that hard to do. Give yourself some time in the mirror, see where you are at, sketch what you see. Yes, we want to see silk and neckwear, but that's it, the rest is up to you and let's face it the best portraits I've seen always have fabric in them, from Frida to Vincent, shawl scarves to bandages on ears, suit fabrics to dresses made of silk in a Botticelli or Da Vinci, things that adorn us, that we love, add to that character.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Submissions +61413140994

PS: I managed to get in touch with Alexis to further ask him more about his artwork. Please have a read below:

Can you give me a brief run down from when you wrapped up M De Phocas, what it was for you at that time, and where you are at now as an artist and everything that mattered in between?

Since closing M. de Phocas, I've undergone significant growth as an artist. At that time, art was just my lifelong hobby; M. de Phocas was a project I did in partnership with Jesus D. Torres where we designed and produced men’s accessories and fine jewelry, It was a defining moment for me, solidifying my passion for men’s style and fashion. Since then, I've explored new mediums, refining my voice and vision, doing artists residency programs around the world connecting with fellow artists, curators, gallerists and learning from critiques, to expand my creative community. Today, I feel more confident, experimental, and committed to pushing the boundaries through my art.

Can you tell me about your submission and how it came about?

My submission is a symbolic work that explores the idea of introspection and self-discovery. The image of a myself within a myself within a myself is a representation of the layers that make up our existence and the journey of peeling back those layers to reveal our true essence. The concentric spiral motif surrounding the portrait symbolizes the cyclical nature of this journey, where each iteration brings us closer to our purest form. The color palette, featuring shades of blue, black and white color is reminiscent of traditional porcelain, evoking a sense of clarity, calmness, and timelessness. The addition of silver leaf brings a touch of luminosity and reflectiveness, symbolizing the light of intuition and inner guidance that illuminates our path. The entire process, from conception to completion, was a journey of introspection and self-discovery, as I looked to distil the essence of my own inner world into this visual representation."

Can you tell us about your plans for 2025 for your art and a bit for your personal life?

Looking ahead to 2025, I’ll be working the first months of the year in my studio in Monterrey Mexico; I'm excited to do a few residency programs during the year, I applied to a couple but am still waiting to hear the results/acceptance. I plan to delve into new projects that explore the relationship between the physical and spiritual realms. I will pre presenting some works at Mexico City art week during the fairs as well as creating some new pieces for a show next summer in NYC.

The World's Best Bow Tie Remains The Majestic Black By Le Noeud Papillon

Yes, there are so many bow ties a person could choose from, and we never ask you to settle - we want you to find your perfect bow tie that marries with your face and what you are choosing to wear. And we are here for you 24/7 when you need that by texting +61413140994 .

HOWEVER!!!!

Our Majestic Black bow tie remains our number one seller worldwide.

The most remarkable present a woman could give her man, the most remarkable present you could give yourself, the most remarkable present you could give to a groom or groomsmen, or the father of the bride, or your future father in law - is our Majestic Black. It is the Goldilocks of our range of bow ties, fitting so many faces and tying so beautifully.

To this day we still have men whose Majestic Blacks, more than a decade old now, come back to the Studio to have them pruned, pressed and re-tied ahead of the black tie ball and wedding season. So, unless you lose them or do everything to destroy them, this bow tie will be with you for the duration of your life and ready to hand on to the next generation when you are done.

It is still our most prized and sought after bow tie and the one that our private label customers seek out year after year. I am proud of it, it ties so very beautifully, that lovely dimple, that elegant crease in the centre knot. It is ours and only ours. It is still made in our Sydney workroom. It has been copied once that we know of in an Italian workroom, lucky for myself I found that workroom and we had a strong chat. Also with the designer which attempted to copy it.

It still comes in our wonderful gift boxes with it's foil seal instruction cards making it's provenance impossible to dispute.

I would suggest to you, and it is just my opinion, that it is one of the best gifts you could ever purchase, we sold one to the USA a minute ago, three to Western Australia this morning, and you will never regret it either for yourself or as a gift.

And if you need personal style advice prior, text me directly on +61413140994

Shunga Art - Japanese Sensual Artwork That Resonates

If there is one country that has endlessly inspired my design work it is Japan. Last night I was explaining to a photographer how I believed that the work of Australian artist Brett Whiteley was inspired by the form of shunga art from Japan. The word “shunga” literally means “spring pictures” and they are on the interface of art and pornography - a form of Japanese art which appeared from the 1600’s to the early 1900’s. It was often carried in rolls that you opened up or as sets of prints often from woodblocks. The famed woodblock artist Hokusai was one of those artists. The art was often commissioned by the aristocratic class but it managed to trickle down to all Japanese. Wherever there has been advancements in technology in media there has always been pornography as a driver but in shunga the lines between pornography and art are blurred and these images serve as reminders of the tenderness between men and women during sex, the art of love making and of course the beauty and art that is everything Japanese. I am beginning a silk scarf shortly that will be in this vein.

We Are Not Just Another Bow Tie Company - Le Noeud Papillon - Bespoke / Hand-Made / Hand-Cut / Hand-Tied

A lot of hands go into our bow ties. First we put hand to paper and make a design we deem worthy of your attention. Then teams in Italy handle the production of our limited fabrics, fold them by hand, pack them into boxes, ship them off. The courier who drops them off, still does it by hand. Then we unpack them, place them onto the cutting table and cut them - by hand. In turn our seamstresses sew them by hand with sewing machines. The process can be hard on the hands. Then they are tied in the Studio by hand, sold and hand packed. A lot of hands. A lot more than you would think because all we show you is the perfect bow tie, ready for you to wear. We handle the rest. That's why we always remain one step ahead of our competitors. We still use our hands. www.lenoeudpapillon.com

The Le Noeud Papillon Portrait Competition Has Now Ended

Firstly let me say thank you to everyone that contributed to the portrait competition. Each and every work took up your time which I am extremely grateful for. It was shaping up to be a dismal failure, in the end, worked out to be one of the best if not the best competition to date.

The winner: Oliver Watts – Prize - $1500.00 AUD Voucher
Runners Up:

1.      Clementine Blackman

2.      Timothy Farley

Each of the runners up have a voucher for $500.00 AUD

I would like to say that the runners up were hard to choose as I had loved the intricate work of Curran Chai, the work of Ineke was striking, young Marco Bialek who sketched his father in Mallorca on the occasion of his 50th birthday. The 1980’s feel of Henry Gair, the yuzen bow tie of Barnabas Bako, the hint of Joni Mitchell in Kristine’s sketch with beret and silk scarf. The list goes on. I loved all of them.

And so for each of you that submitted outside of the winners, you will receive either a black bow tie from us for the men, for the ladies, a silk scarf. Please make contact on +61413140994 to claim your prize for your contribution.

And, thank you. I was so pleased with the final result. Bravo to all of you.
