Shunga Art - Japanese Sensual Artwork That Resonates
If there is one country that has endlessly inspired my design work it is Japan. Last night I was explaining to a photographer how I believed that the work of Australian artist Brett Whiteley was inspired by the form of shunga art from Japan. The word “shunga” literally means “spring pictures” and they are on the interface of art and pornography - a form of Japanese art which appeared from the 1600’s to the early 1900’s. It was often carried in rolls that you opened up or as sets of prints often from woodblocks. The famed woodblock artist Hokusai was one of those artists. The art was often commissioned by the aristocratic class but it managed to trickle down to all Japanese. Wherever there has been advancements in technology in media there has always been pornography as a driver but in shunga the lines between pornography and art are blurred and these images serve as reminders of the tenderness between men and women during sex, the art of love making and of course the beauty and art that is everything Japanese. I am beginning a silk scarf shortly that will be in this vein.

We Are Not Just Another Bow Tie Company - Le Noeud Papillon - Bespoke / Hand-Made / Hand-Cut / Hand-Tied
A lot of hands go into our bow ties. First we put hand to paper and make a design we deem worthy of your attention. Then teams in Italy handle the production of our limited fabrics, fold them by hand, pack them into boxes, ship them off. The courier who drops them off, still does it by hand. Then we unpack them, place them onto the cutting table and cut them - by hand. In turn our seamstresses sew them by hand with sewing machines. The process can be hard on the hands. Then they are tied in the Studio by hand, sold and hand packed. A lot of hands. A lot more than you would think because all we show you is the perfect bow tie, ready for you to wear. We handle the rest. That's why we always remain one step ahead of our competitors. We still use our hands. www.lenoeudpapillon.com

The Le Noeud Papillon Portrait Competition Has Now Ended
Firstly let me say thank you to everyone that contributed to
the portrait competition. Each and every work took up your time which I am
extremely grateful for. It was shaping up to be a dismal failure, in the end,
worked out to be one of the best if not the best competition to date.
1.
Clementine Blackman
2.
Timothy Farley
Each of the runners up have a voucher for $500.00 AUD
I would like to say that the runners up were hard to choose
as I had loved the intricate work of Curran Chai, the work of Ineke was
striking, young Marco Bialek who sketched his father in Mallorca on the
occasion of his 50th birthday. The 1980’s feel of Henry Gair, the
yuzen bow tie of Barnabas Bako, the hint of Joni Mitchell in Kristine’s sketch
with beret and silk scarf. The list goes on. I loved all of them.
And so for each of you that submitted outside of the
winners, you will receive either a black bow tie from us for the men, for the
ladies, a silk scarf. Please make contact on +61413140994 to claim your prize
for your contribution.
And, thank you. I was so pleased with the final result.
Bravo to all of you.
